These are a continuation of some of
the pieces that I have shown in the
Icons + Altars exhibition at the New Art Center in Newton,
Massachusetts.
My Life So Far
is the fifth Icons + Altars piece I made. It is about the years
that I have been alive, 1970-2005. Each shelf represents a decade, and
each perpendicular row of pennies symbolizes a specific year. In the
first row of pennies on the first shelf, there is only one penny. It is
marked 1970 and represents my first year of life. In the last row of
pennies on the last shelf, there are 36 pennies in four stacks. The
stacks are marked 1970, 1980, 1990, and 2005. I turned 35 years old in
2005, therefore I started my 36th year of life.
