City Flow
This is a work in progress for the Phoenix
METRO Light Rail Northwest Extension. Nina Solomon and I are partners
on this project. The theme of this sculptural art work is the
connection of neighborhoods throughout the city that the light rail
facilitates. This flow through the city will be suggested by the
dynamic angles of the sculpture, as well as by the gradual shift of
colors across the surface. Aluminum forms will frame handmade tiles
that have architectural and domestic references impressed into them,
creating a variety of textures. The sculptural design will span a 30
foot wall from side to side varying in heights and depths, and
gradually become more dimensional and faceted toward the middle. The
light will play on these angled surfaces of the form. This project is
scheduled to be installed on the west side of 19th Ave. just south of
Glendale Ave. in 2012.
